New Stanton, PA – The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County (MAWC) convened for its regular monthly meeting on June 19, 2024, at 124 Park & Pool Road, New Stanton, PA. One of the major highlights was the approval of an engineering agreement with Gibson Thomas for the reconstruction of the belt filter press at the New Stanton Sewage Treatment Plant. This project, which involves extensive surveying, planning, permitting, mapping, and design work, is budgeted not to exceed $67,500. Another key project is the sanitary sewer lining for Hempfield Township, particularly in the Fort Allen and Union Cemetery areas. This project is divided into two phases, with the first phase costing $39,650 and the second phase $31,720, totaling $71,370.
The board also approved the installation of a new main waterline along Pittsburgh Pike (SR3010) and Waltz Mill Road (SR3037) in South Huntingdon Township. This project, estimated at $645,300, includes the installation of approximately 2,660 feet of waterline and three fire hydrants, which will serve both existing and new customers in the area. Funding for this project includes $395,300 from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) and $250,000 from South Huntingdon Township.
A major expansion project for the Indian Creek Water Treatment Plant was also discussed and approved. This ambitious project, with a budget of $25,000,000, aims to significantly enhance the capacity and efficiency of the treatment plant. Another related project is the engineering agreement for the Indian Creek 48-inch river crossing, estimated at $496,000. This project includes preliminary engineering, final design and specifications, and construction management to ensure the successful completion of the river crossing.
Additionally, the board awarded the contract for the Coulterville Road waterline replacement to W. Construction in Jeannette, PA, for $256,150. This project will involve replacing an existing waterline to improve water service reliability and capacity in the area.
These projects are part of MAWC’s ongoing efforts to modernize and expand the water and sewage infrastructure in Westmoreland County, ensuring reliable and high-quality services for its residents.
