New Stanton, PA – The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County (MAWC) held its regular monthly meeting on July 17, 2024, at 124 Park & Pool Road, New Stanton, PA. One of the primary agenda items was the consideration of the Army Corp of Engineers Supplemental Agreement No. P00001 to the Water Storage Agreement. This supplemental agreement aims to enhance the existing water storage capacity, ensuring better management and availability of water resources in the region. The board also deliberated on a Water Purchase Agreement with the Ligonier Township Municipal Authority, which is expected to improve the reliability and supply of water to the township.

Another significant discussion point was the agreement for water shut-off services and the collection of wastewater charges through the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County for PA American. This agreement is designed to streamline the process of managing water services and ensuring timely collection of wastewater charges, thereby improving operational efficiency.

The board also considered several other resolutions, including a PennDOT cost-share request and Resolution 2024-11, Resolution 2024-12 for extensions of credit and an incumbency certificate with PNC, and a pledge agreement for bank deposits. Additionally, they reviewed a reimbursement agreement for standby and commercial letters of credit and a cost-share request and Resolution 2024-13 for a utility relocation project on S.R. 981 located in Mt. Pleasant and Unity Townships. This project, funded 83.76% by PennDOT and 10% by MAWC, has a total cost of $2,210,732.00, with MAWC contributing $359,022.88.

The meeting concluded with reports from the engineer, the manager, and comments from the board members. The board members shared their observations, discussed ongoing concerns, and highlighted future initiatives to improve water and sewage services in the county. The next regular MAWC meeting is scheduled for August 21, 2024, at 12:00 PM.
