Bell Township, PA – CNX, a natural gas exploration and production company, has proposed the development of the Mamont 12 Well Pad, located off Perrysville Road (S.R. 0400) in Bell Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. The proposed site is situated approximately 900 feet southeast of the intersection with Saint James Church Road (S.R. 1065). The project is designed to support unconventional drilling and natural gas production activities in the region.

Project Overview

The Mamont 12 Well Pad project will encompass several key components:

  1. Well Pad: The primary feature of the project is the construction of a 9.2-acre well pad. This pad will serve as the operational area for drilling and production activities, including the setup of drilling rigs and other necessary equipment.
  2. Access Infrastructure: To facilitate access to the well pad, a 3,300-foot-long access road will be constructed. This road will connect the well pad to Perrysville Road, ensuring efficient transportation of equipment and materials.
  3. Valve Pad and Access Road: A 300-square-foot valve pad, accompanied by a 430-foot-long access road, will be established to manage and control the flow of natural gas from the wells.
  4. Utilities: The project includes the installation of one water line and one gas pipeline. These pipelines will be essential for the transportation of water and natural gas, respectively, supporting the operational needs of the site.

Environmental Considerations

As part of the development, approximately 45.5 acres will be disturbed. CNX has outlined a plan for erosion and sedimentation controls, stormwater management, and site restoration. These measures are intended to minimize environmental impact and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Erosion and Sedimentation Controls: The project will implement best management practices to prevent soil erosion and manage sediment runoff. This includes the construction of barriers, such as silt fences and sediment basins, to protect nearby water bodies and land areas.
  • Stormwater Management: A stormwater management system will be established to manage runoff from the site. This system will include the construction of retention basins and other structures to control the flow and quality of stormwater, reducing the risk of flooding and water pollution.
  • Site Restoration: Following the completion of drilling and production activities, the site will undergo a restoration process. This will involve the regrading and replanting of disturbed areas to restore the land to a natural or pre-construction state.
